FAQs

  • Why Should I License Songs?

There are many reasons to legally license songs to use in productions. We're not here to bombard you with scare tactics about the legalities of downloading music but we will advocate for the proper treatment of artistic property. So why license a song? Because it's the right thing to do. These musicians have created works of art that they are willing to share with you to use in your works of art. Music as art is no less tangible than a painting or photo. People have spent time, thought, and energy creating something that means something significant and we believe that they, like any other artist, should be fairly compensated and recognized for their work.

  • But I Legally Bought This Song on iTunes. That's the Same, Right?

Short answer: No. Do not be fooled and do not let anyone tell you that because you bought a song on iTunes (or Amazon, or some other similar music purchasing site) that you can use the song where and how you want. This is where licensing comes into play. You are not paying for the mp3 here, you are paying for the right to use it as the background music to your project (called the license.)

  • How Can I Use the Music I License with TMB?

We recommend that you read the full license agreement if you have detailed questions. The way you can use the music will differ from license to license. Here is a list of some of the ways you may use the music within the different licenses.

If you are a wedding videographer and you are selling DVDs, you can make up to 15 DVDs (for sale) with your song purchase. If you have read the license agreement, and still have questions, please contact us.

  • Where Can I NOT Use the Music?

You may not use any of the music on The Music Bed for the following:

    • You may not use in any radio/TV/broadcast media

    • You may not use in any media with explicit or inappropriate content.

    • You may not use in any projects for political purposes.

We ask that you review the license agreement to get a full understanding of restrictions.

  • What About Licensing for TV & Paid Advertising?

We do not license any music for commercial broadcast or paid advertising placements. As a matter of fact, most of the artists that we have on this site are artists that also license their music for broadcast work through different licensing groups. We have formed partnerships with a number of those licensing groups to bring you their roster of music for this specific purpose.
